This annual three-night event offers public screenings of short films made by students in the School of Media Studies’ graduate certificate program in Documentary Media Studies

Over three evenings, short films are screened for the public. Media Studies faculty members Deirdre Boyle and Deanna Kamiel conduct Q&A sessions with the filmmakers following the screenings each night. These works are the product of a year of intensive study of documentary production, history, and theory.

The Documentary Media Studies certificate is awarded for successful completion of a one-year, full-time, graduate-level program of study, a unique opportunity to study documentary filmmaking in a small, intensive program in New York City, the world’s documentary capital. For more information on the program and its students, faculty and events, visit www.newschool.edu/public-engagement/documentary-media-graduate-certificate.

There is a public reception with the filmmakers and faculty following the first night of screening.

Voice-Over is The School of Media Studies’ Annual Script Reading Event

An evening where screenplays written by students’ completing the Screenwriting Certificate are brought to vivid life as select portions are read before an audience of students, peers and invited film industry professionals. Not your ordinary script reading, Voice-Over uses audio and video elements in addition to accomplished actors to bring the writers’ words to cinematic life.

The event provides students with the invaluable experience of both hearing their characters come alive while also offering them the chance to publicly showcase their talent as they venture out into the professional world.

A reception will follow the readings along with the presentation of the Rena Down Memorial Screenwriting Prize.
