This talk entertains the conceptual im/possibility of the term ‘trans-national,’ unpacking the discursive underpinning of “trans” and the cultural condition of “national” respectively in relation to cinema. It also calls attention to the emergent media ecology that surrounds cinema by way of introducing a new framework of cinematrix. This talk will appeal to those bewildered by the routine use yet obscure meaning of the ‘transnational’ as well as to scholars in media studies, cultural studies, anthropology, area studies, and cinema studies.
Respondent: Robert Stam (NYU Cinema Studies)
Jung-Bong Choi is Assistant Professor of Cinema Studies at NYU.
