Internship Opportunity: REEL LIVES

REEL LIVES | Media for Education, Empowerment and Social Change
REEL LIVES is looking for a face-paced, responsible person to help the Director of Programs manage the Media That Matters Film Festival (www.mediathatmattersfest.org).
Media That Matters is the premiere showcase for short films on the most important topics of the day. Local and global, online and in communities around the world, Media That Matters engages diverse audiences and inspires them to take action. From gay rights to global warming, the jury-selected collection represents the work of a diverse group of independent filmmakers, many of whom are under 21. The films are equally diverse in style and content, with documentaries, music videos, animations, experimental work and everything else in between. What all the films have in common is that they spark debate and action in 12 minutes or less.
The position requires someone who believes in the REEL LIVES mission and has their own passion for independent documentary film. They need someone who is very social media savvy with excellent communication skills.
Reel Lives uses media to support education, empowerment and social change. Our approach consists of an integrated set of programming that achieves both depth and breadth of service via our Core, Graduate and International Programs, Media That Matters Collection and Curricula Development.
With the growing consolidation of mainstream media worldwide and simultaneous expansion of alternative access points for information, advocates, educators, youth and the public are bombarded with messaging. With Media That Matters, the premier collection of social justice themed media, and our Curricula Development in partnership with organizations and schools, Reel Lives represents a trusted source; connecting active audiences with media to spur critical consideration of pressing social issues, and gives educators the tools to impact the way youth engage with the world.
The internship is unpaid, but there is a lot of potential to grow with us. They ask a commitment of two days a week, six hours per day, and an additional few hours of work done remotely. They are currently located in Williamsburg off the Bedford L or the JMZ at Marcy.
