Jamie Kruse (MA 2005) – Making the Geologic Now
Elizabeth Ellsworth’s and Jamie Kruse’s (MA 2005) co-edited book, Making the Geologic Now: Responses to Material Conditions of Contemporary Life, was published by Punctum Books.
Jamie and Elizabeth are also collaborators on Smudge Studio. Smudge Studio has been granted funding for a three year research and writing project called Future North. This project received $1.5 million in funding from the Research Council of Norway. It is facilitated by the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO). It is a project of the Programme on Cultural Conditions Underlying Social Change. The point of departure for this project is that the landscape both shapes and is shaped by cultural and social development. From this perspective the Arctic landscape is a unique laboratory for studying how the landscape changes in step with changes in production, utilization of the natural surroundings, infrastructure and climate. The project will take a cross-disciplinary approach to studying the relationship between humans and their environment and the significance of social action for the development of the northern landscape.
