Deadline Extension: Grant Opportunity in Photography

A grant opportunity for faculty, staff, and students across the disciplines that are interested in photography-based initiatives is now available through Ashoka U. Ashoka U is now partnering with PhotoWings, a nationally recognized non-profit organization, for a unique, funded opportunity called Insights: Past, Present, and Future Self Through Photography whereby faculty, staff, and/or students from Ashoka U Changemaker Campuses are eligible to receive $1000-$5000 grants to lead interdisciplinary photography-based projects.

Selected projects will be showcased at the Ashoka U Exchange at Brown University, and through Ashoka social media channels, recently ranked as the #1 most influential NGO by Klout.
Overview of Grant Details:
  • Diverse Engagement: Proposals should plan to engage a broad range of university stakeholders from multiple disciplines (e.g. student leaders, faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees).
  • Photography-Based Media: Projects may feature a photography display, a website, multimedia, videos, performance (musical or dance), projections, or print exhibits.
  •  Incorporates Photographic Thinking Values: Embodies big ideas related to visual literacy, empathy, communication, ethics, resilience, critical thinking, perspective, context, photographic preservation and legacy.
Proposals can be developed either as an extracurricular initiative or for an in-class assignment. The goal is to connect diverse individuals from across disciplines – and between the Changemaker Campuses  – that might not ordinarily have the opportunity to collaborate.
The grant application is now open and applications will be accepted through Wednesday, September 25, 2013.  Please contact Erin Krampetz ( if you would like to know more about this opportunity or if you have any questions.
