Communications and External Affairs seeks Digital Media Student Assistant

The New School’s Communications and External Affairs office (CEA) seeks a creative student to assist the Special Projects department. At Special Projects we are responsible for coordinating, managing and producing video and photography content to promote the entire university. The student assistant will work under the supervision the Special Projects Manager and the Digital Media Coordinator in the primary functions of organization, editing, and distribution of digital assets (photo, video, and audio), and assist in the management of different social media properties.

The Digital Media Student Assistant will have the opportunity to work on creative projects in photo and video while acquiring in-demand real-world skills of digital asset management and production.
Ability to commit to at least 1 year in the position.

Organized, precise, and detail oriented.
Communicative, cooperative, curious to learn new things and able to take direction.
A fast learner of creative software.
Proficient working on Macintosh computers.
Confident in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Bridge (Creative Suite and Time-based editing software a plus, e.g. Final Cut Pro, Avid, After Effects, and/or Premiere)
Commit to a typical workload of 20 hours per week during school year.
Catalogue, tag, export, and share photo shoots using our central server-based image database. Training will be provided.
Assist in the maintenance of the university Youtube channel including uploading, creating playlists, edit and craft descriptions.
Assist all CEA staff by assembling and editing collections of images for different projects.
Assist the Special Projects Manager and the Digital Media Coordinator with compression and output of videos for different purposes.
Work with Special Projects Manager and Digital Media Coordinator, and outside vendors to produce in-house video and photo content.
Other tasks as assigned.
The Digital Media Student Assistant and the Special Projects Manager will work out a schedule that is conducive to both, but one that could be flexible for fewer or more hours depending on academic calendar and need. He/she should anticipate working up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 35 in summer. He/she needs to maintain a reasonable but dedicated schedule. Payment is $15/hour, commensurate with applicant’s experience and skill level.
