Photography Workshop: “Politics, Portraiture, and Identity”

In the exhibition Zanele Muholi: Isibonelo/Evidence, the artist uses photography and testimonials to create visibility for black lesbian and transgender communities in South Africa. In the spirit of Muholi’s work, Sherley Olopherne, photographer and archivist at the Lesbian Herstory Archives, leads a two-part photography workshop focusing on self representation and personal narrative. Learn the basics of portrait photography and compile your photos and testimonials as a storytelling tool.


Open to all; no experience necessary. All materials provided. The workshop fee, which includes Museum admission and refreshments, is $35; $25 for Museum Members.
