Virtual Reality for Filmmakers, Defining a New Medium

Description: In a discussion geared towards intermediate and experienced filmmakers, attendees will be introduced to the VR landscape as it exists right now – headsets, prominent content creators and content distributors. In a second portion of the talk, filmmakers will be taken through the VR workflow and cover the skill sets that need to be developed to create immersive live-action VR experiences. The final portion of the talk will focus on what works in virtual reality and what doesn’t, and what narrative possibilities are worth further exploration with the aim of bridging the gap between emotion and technology through storytelling. The session will be bookended by opportunities for filmmakers to try virtual reality experiences in Google Cardboard and in Samsung Gear VR.
