Marketing & Communications Manager Job Responsibilities

The Garrison Institute is seeking a creative, organized, savvy colleague to join our team.

DETAILS: Full Time/SALARY LOCATION: Garrison, NY

As Marketing & Communications Manager, you care about building community in social spaces, expanding audiences, and extending the reach of the Garrison Institute’s retreats, workshops, and other programs. You know that brevity and wit can co-exist with depth and engagement. The Marketing & Communications Manager will draw on the ethos of the Garrison Institute’s programming, online content, and publications while bringing a distinctive voice, a big-picture view of emerging media landscapes, and a strategic sensibility to a new era of growth and innovation for the Garrison Institute.

The Marketing & Communications Manager will be adept at maintaining websites, will catalog and organize our content, and will envision and expand our social media presence on every platform. You should have a strong technical and social media management background to help manage content on our website and social platforms. And, you must be able to create compelling postings that will engage audiences, drive increased engagement with our content, and build loyal communities. Working closely with our team (Editor in Chief and Graphic Designer) reporting to the Marketing and Communications Director (MCD), you will:

Play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely creation of web content.

Publishes to the homepage, a variety of web banners to keep the content timely, fresh and updated.

Maintain WordPress website and post retreats and events webpage descriptions.

Liaise with Retreats & Events Staff and rental groups to obtain marketing materials.

Edit program descriptions and ensure all web content adheres to rigorous guidelines for content.

Tracks and analyzes content performance and makes recommendations for enhancements via Google Analytics and other data tools.

Works with the Communications team on search engine marketing and optimizing content for increased performance.

Maintain library of marketing materials and ensure flyers and brochures are available for visitors and retreatants.

Execute planned social media strategies from beginning to end that build and engage audiences.

Manage daily presence on social networking platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn), including daily monitoring and posting through Sprout Social.

Manage a suite of social media production and analytics tools and communicate metrics and best practices to key stakeholders and Communications team.

Manage Communications Production Calendar for department and catalog and maintain library of assets on shared drive.

Supports creation and implementation of email campaigns and other communications, including email design, list segmentation, and reporting; ensure consistency, quality, and delivery.

Support the development and creation of blog content (photo searches, technical support for video production and podcasts), as well as online marketing and fundraising.

Advise on emerging trends and launch new social media accounts as needed.

Research trends in research on mindfulness and contemplative thought and integrate leading concepts into social media postings.

Assists the MCD in performing periodic website audits and helps implement improvements to key pages.

Assists with copyediting and proofreading all marketing, fundraising, communications web content.

Supports content creation for emails, digital newsletters, and other digital outbound marketing tools as needed.

Oversee advertising calendar and contracts and work closely with Graphic Designer on ads for a variety of online and print media outlets.

Keeps current with emerging web technologies and social media trends through relevant blogs, listservs, and events.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree, with a focus in communications, journalism, or marketing preferred.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment working collaboratively with team members.

Interest in spirituality, contemplation, wisdom traditions, and social justice.

Proficiency with website management, analytics, and data tools.

Superb writing skills showing deep thinking and originality.

Expertise in creating social media content.

Scrupulous attention to detail and organizational skills.

Excellent communication skills, written and spoken.

Excellent time-management and decision-making skills – able to manage

multiple priorities and meet deadlines while providing and maintaining quality content.

Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.

Familiarity with video production and editing software.
