Student Work Highlight: Formar Art
Created by Altay Yildiz, a Master of Science in Media Management graduate, Formar Art bridges the gap between technology and fine art, giving artists a new medium through Augmented Reality mobile technology. Formar Art serves and strengthens New York art galleries by becoming a centralized mobile art guide app. Formar Art uses art and technology to bring people together and celebrate New York City.
The project was developed throughout multiple courses in both the Media Studies and Media Management Curriculum. Altay developed the concept in Projects in Interactive Design (NMDS 5531), the logos and brand identity in Media Practices: Design Principles (NMDS 5426), and the final business plan and proposal in Management Capstone (NMDM 5940).
In order to develop Formar Art, I had to analyze the market place, and write a business proposal that reflected and enhanced the initial business concept. Since this was a mobile app, I chose to design the UX/UI, logo, and brand identity.
Altay made his first short film “Sound of Street” in 2009; he served as a cinematographer, and co-producer. This project won an award at the New York Chamber International film festival. Altay’s latest documentary project “Misión Flamenca” was his first film as a director and editor. Misión Flamenca was an official selection at 2014 San Francisco Dance Film Festival, 2014 Dans Kamera Istanbul, and 2015 Sinema Dans Ankara Film Festival. Altay also interned at the Margaret Mead Film Festival as a creative consultant and liason between filmmakers and the festival committee. He completed his M.S. in the Media Management program with a merit scholarship in May 2017.
