Student Work Highlight: In Transit – above and below
In Transit: above and below
This work was developed in Filmmaking Studio 1 (NFLM 3660) with Professor Kathleen Rugh. In Transit: above and below is a stop-motion short film recording of filmmaker Erica Sheu’s almost-two-hour route from home to school. It is also a portrait of New Yorkers’ daily life in public transportation.
This class introduced me to the possibility of working with a wild camera, sound design, and Avid Media Composer. The assignment and prompts were inspirational. It was a good guide for a student who loves films but does not know where to start. – Erica Sheu
Erica Sheu graduated from National Dong Hwa University in Taiwan with a Bachelor’s degree in English, focusing on English literature and media studies. After she graduated, she interned in Women Make Waves Film Festival, Taiwan. Shortly after the internship, she started to work in a graduate film production, “To Pluto,” from The London Film School, that took place in Taiwan. She worked as a continuity and assistant producer in the crew. Erica is a current Filmmaking Certificate student at the New School.
