Project Manager for The New School Collaboratory

BACKGROUND
The New School Collaboratory is a university wide initiative that aims to enhance the
University’s goals of connecting the social sciences and design fields and fostering
meaningful, efficacious, and sustainable engagements with community and institutional
partners. Formally launched in 2013 with support from the Rockefeller Foundation, the
Collaboratory has provided a context to explore and reflect on ways to combine rigorous
intellectual reflection with socially engaged learning and public scholarship, initially an
action-research initiative and community of practice, the Collaboratory has also evolved
into a digital platform that enables us to broaden the overall goals of the Collaboratory.

In 2017, the Collaboratory started developing the digital arm of the initiative (the
“Collaboratory Digital Platform”) in order to:
● Raise the profile of public scholarship as a form of knowledge creation and public
engagement;
● Foster dialogue nationally across higher education institutions that deepens
understanding of diverse approaches to public engagement/public
scholarship/engaged learning, including scholars, educators, students, community
members, and practitioners;
● Promote public engagement with diverse audiences around specific projects and
initiatives;
● Enhance capacity of faculty, students and community partners to access, produce,
and share tools to facilitate implementation, documentation, and dissemination of
their publicly engaged work; and
● Improve wayfinding across across all stakeholder groups
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
● Develop and implement a strategy to keep the content of the Collaboratory Digital
Platform fresh and dynamic
● Identify and work with socially engaged and public scholarship projects at The
New School to help them reflect upon and showcase their work on the web
platform
● Design workshops, templates, and educational resources to help faculty and
students better document and narrate the story of their work in a compelling way
● Develop new strategies, frameworks and processes to improve the operations of
the Collaboratory Digital Platform and strengthen its positioning and visibility at
The New School
● Identify and develop new opportunities for community and skill building for this
community of practice
● Craft communications and marketing collateral in order to encourage the use and
adoption of the platform

● Work with the university’s development units as needed to ensure effective
financial management and reporting to outside funders of the project
● Identify opportunities for future funding to support the continued growth of the
Collaboratory Digital Platform
● Help support the Associate Dean of Social Engagement and Educational
Innovation in the strategic planning, institutional collaborations, fundraising,
knowledge dissemination and communications associated with the Collaboratory
Digital Platform.
QUALIFICATIONS
● At least 3 – 5 years work experience in a relevant field
● Excellent research, writing and interpersonal communication skills
● Excellent project management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines,
communicate effectively, and work collaboratively
● Capacity to design and manage the implementation of a multi-media strategy to
document the work of the Collaboratory project partnerships
● Basic understanding of the user experience (ux design) process and principles
and/or who have worked in digital media.
● Experience organizing and facilitating workshops and academically oriented
events
● Strong interest and experience in developing partnerships in conjunction with
community, civic and cultural organizations
● Experience working in an academic environment, including teaching is preferred
This position will report directly to Michele Kahane, Associate Dean of SPE and
Collaboratory Director.
Hours: 10 – 20 hours per week. Start date is as soon as possible. $18.46/hour.

This position reports to Michele Kahane, Associate Dean, Schools of Public Engagement.
