EVENT: LGBTQIA Representations and Italian Media
About the event
Join us for a 2-day workshop “LGBTQIA+ Representations and Italian Media” hosted at the Graduate Center, CUNY (September 14th) and the Casa Italiana of NYU (September 15th). This event is part of a series of workshops organized by QuIR, the Queer Italia Network.
Throughout a series of brief scholarly interventions, the participants of this workshop will look at representations of LGBTQIA+ minority communities produced by Italian socio-political media economies. Scholars working on topics ranging from AIDS narratives of famous writers, to group discourses on popular reality television, to dissident cinematic strategies of self-revelation, will share their work in a collaborative space. Participants of the workshop will directly engage with key questions that will serve as catalysts for discussions about the Italian media’s relationship to a variety of queer theories, methodologies, and identities. Open sessions and smaller group workshops will create an opportunity for dialogic engagement and possible future collaboration.
RSVP required: Those interested in attending should reserve their spots as soon as possible by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Please be advised that spaces are extremely limited to insure a free exchange of ideas in a communal more intimate atmosphere.
