Thesis Collective meeting of the spring semester will be on Friday September 22nd
Dear School of Media Studies MA Thesis and Independent Research/Production Students,
Welcome to Fall Semester! We hope your summers were all restful and enjoyable. As the foliage falls and the weather gets a bit colder, we want to welcome you to join our monthly Thesis Collective meetings!
The first Thesis Collective meeting of the spring semester will be on Friday September 22nd from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM – location: 79 Fifth Avenue (the Media Studies Loft), Room 1618 (the classroom right in front of the elevators).
Students in the Thesis Tutorial Lab will present on their work in progress each session and students in Thesis Supervision and Thesis Proposal are also invited to present and discuss.
There will be three more Thesis Collective meetings this semester, so if you miss this one, don’t worry!
October 20th from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM in room 1618 (79 5th Ave.)
November 17th from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM in room 1618 (79 5th Ave.)
December 8th from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM in room 1618 (79 5th Ave.)
The Thesis Collective is a student-led group comprised of students in Thesis Proposal, Thesis Tutorial Lab and Thesis Supervision.
- Students are welcome to network, discuss, plan, present, and receive feedback on their work.
- All students in any one of these three stages are welcome, but we also encourage and welcome students who are interested in pursuing the thesis track as well! UPDATE: Students who are pursuing the independent research/production track are also strongly encouraged to come to these meetings, present material, and get feedback on their works in progress.
- The meetings are very flexible and students are encouraged to talk amongst each other to determine how best to schedule the agendas for each meeting.
- Snacks and refreshments will be served as well!
This week we will be doing a joint Thesis Tutorial class/Thesis Collective meeting. Students in Thesis Tutorial will be conducting “lightning presentations.” In the time afterwards, all students who are not in Thesis Tutorial will also be able to brainstorm their ideas and network with the students in Thesis Tutorial. If you are in any stage of the thesis process or independent study please feel free to come!
We always encourage students to present their current research and their works in progress. To this end we ask that students let us know beforehand if they want to present. For the first Thesis Collective meeting we ask that anyone who wants to present on his/her research please email us at email@example.com In general, the Wednesday before the Thesis Collective meeting is when we ask for students to inform us that they plan to present, but we will indicate if this changes at any point in the semester.
We hope this semester will be productive and enjoyable for you all and we hope to see you at each of the meetings this semester!
