NEW SCHOOL STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD COMPETITION – DEADLINE MARCH 15, 2018

NEW SCHOOL STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD COMPETITION – DEADLINE MARCH 15, 2018

We are very pleased to let you know about a new university-wide competition for student research funding (broadly defining research to include the full scope of scholarly, creative, and professional practices covered across the colleges of The New School). This fund is co-sponsored by the University Student Senate and the Office of the President and administered by the Provost’s Office of Research Support. Further details about the competition can be found here.

If you are approached by students asking if you are willing to mentor a project should it be funded, please know that all full-time faculty are eligible to be mentors, and that mentors do not need to be appointed in the college or department in which the student is enrolled. Agreeing to mentor a project includes providing the applicant with a brief signed statement to upload with their application that includes the following:

  • Your willingness to support the student in this project should it be funded.
  • Your endorsement of the project’s merit and importance.
  • A brief explanation of what your support will involve [E.g., Regular meetings?Feedback on the project plan, presentation, art work, performance? Logistical advice? Etc.]

Please also know that students interested in applying may attend workshops before the application deadline of March 15, 2018 that give suggestions on developing a fundable project and budgeting tips.

I hope you agree on the importance of this new initiative for our students and the university’s mission. Many thanks to the members of the Student Senate, the University Research Council, Student Success, and the Office of the President who have helped bring this to fruition.
