Speculations in the Archive: Filming Through the Lens of Objects Workshop

Join UnionDocs and delve into the use of objects and archival materials at SPECULATIONS IN THE ARCHIVE workshop led by filmmaker Courtney Stephens.
From October 12-14, we will look at the challenges and possibilities of building and telling stories with found materials. Through the lens of tangible objects, participants will think expansively about material culture and physical archives to consider complex questions around institutional ownership, appropriation, power, authorship, speculative histories, and intimacy.
Explore the rich shared history found in archives with guest instructors John Gianvito (Profit Motive and the Whispering Wind), Pia Borg (Abandoned Goods), Sierra Pettengill (Cutie and the Boxer), Jackson Polys (The Violence of a Civilization Without Secrets), Pacho Velez (Manakamana) and a visit to the archive of the Explorer’s Club.
