Script Competition Perks


Included with the entry fee at no additional cost are Reader Commentswhich are a brief, overall summary of the readers’ notes. Yes, FREE feedback for all entrants! Not many competitions are up to this task, but we’re crazy about writers and we’re invested in your success.


In partnership with acclaimed producer Barry Josephson, this opportunity will provide a one-on-one mentorship in Los Angeles for two fellows – one writer or writing team with a feature script and one writer or writing team with a teleplay pilot – selected from the Final Round of this year’s competition. Fellows will be chosen based on the writers and scripts that imbue the most promise for development.


The Capri Residency Fellowship hopes to provide a place where writers can find their voice and tlel the stories they want to tell. The winner of the Drama Feautre Screenplay Award will be provided the opportunity to stay at the Capri Residency in Marfa, Texas for 2-3 weeks!


The winner of the HUMANITAS Originals Award not only receives the bronze AFF Typewriter Award, but also a $5,000 prize along with reimbursement for airfare (up to $500) and a hotel stay (up to $500) to attend the Festival and Conference. A signature HUMANITAS new voices story must:

  • Challenge us to use our freedom to grow and develop.
  • Confront us with our individual responsibility.
  • Examine the consequences of our choices.


The Award is open to original scripts in the following categories: features, TV pilots, digital series, and fiction podcasts. The fellowship will be awarded to the project that best fits Rooster Teeth’s voice by incorporating elements of comedy and genre filmmaking while accomplishing a low budget/high concept feel. The winner of the Rooster Teeth Fellowship Award will receive a $5,000 prize along with a one-on-one mentorship with Rooster Teeth. This will include feedback and notes from a Rooster Teeth representative on the winning Fellowship script and a week-long mentorship in Austin with all travel expenses covered. In addition to the Fellowship Award, Rooster Teeth will offer development deals to three (3) finalists, who will be given the chance to develop an original concept in conjunction with the Rooster Teeth team. Finalists will be given the opportunity to meet with representatives from Rooster Teeth during AFF’s Writers Festival, held this October 24 –31, 2019.
