Indocumentales Presents “The Unafraid,” April 27

You are all invited to an upcoming screening of Anayansi Prado and Heather Courtney’s documentary, “THE UNAFRAID” (2018). The film will be screened on Saturday, April 27th, 6:00 pm at NYU’s King Juan Carlos Center (KJCC).

“THE UNAFRAID” is a feature-length documentary that follows the personal lives of three DACA students in Georgia, a state that has banned them from attending their top state universities and disqualifies them from receiving in-state tuition at any other public college. Shot in an observational style over a period of four years, this film takes an intimate look at the lives of Alejandro, Silvia, and Aldo as they navigate activism, pursuing their right to education, and fighting for the rights of their families and communities. “THE UNAFRAID” shows us what it means to grow up both American and undocumented in the United States.

INDOCUMENTALES is a unique partnership designed to explore the multiplicity of Latin American migrant experiences in the United States through compassionate representation and critical dialogue. Co-presented by Cinema Tropical, NYU’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, and the World Council of Peoples for the United Nations (WCPUN) / What Moves You?, INDOCUMENTALES brings together a diverse audience hailing from activism, media, film, public policy, and academia.

Our post-screening discussion will feature Staff Attorney at the ACLU Immigrants’ Rights Project (IRP) Celso Perez, and Andrew Lim, Director of Quantitative Research at the Partnership for a New American Economy (NAE). The panel will be moderated by World Council of Peoples for the United Nations (WCPUN) Executive Director, Shamina de Gonzaga.

We would be thrilled see you and your community present in the audience so I wanted to put this on your radar – also with hopes, you could include it in your newsletter or mailing list, and/or social platforms.
