Topic Talks

Topic is presenting a new live event series Topic Talks, in partnership with Pop-Up Magazine. First up is “Topic Talks: Music”, a night of music, stories and stories about music — on June 22 at 7PM at NYU Skirball. Featuring John Cameron Mitchell, creator of the iconic film and Tony-winning Broadway musical Hedwig And The Angry Inch, who will perform songs from his new podcast musical, Anthem.

The show will also feature contributors from music, film, radio and print journalism who will share profound and unexpected stories about the ways music shapes our lives. Use code “TOPIC10” for $10 off tickets!

Application Deadline Extended:
The Center for Communication annually awards the Carole Cooper and Richard Leibner Journalism Fellowship to a New York area female college junior, senior, or graduate student. The Fellow will receive a generous stipend up to $5000 while interning at the Center during the course of the school year. The application deadline is July 15, 2019. Learn more and apply

Grants for Female Musicians:
NYC Mayor’s Office Announces $500,000 in Grants for Female Musicians. The fund application will open in July to NYC-based, female-identifying producers, composers, engineers, solo musicians, ensemble bands and orchestras who are not currently signed to a major label. Applicants must also show evidence of a growing fan base, and have played multiple live shows. Learn more

Werk It 2019:
Join Werk It, the inimitable annual gathering for women shaping the future of podcasting! Werk It 2019 — the Women’s Podcast Festival is in LA this year on Oct. 3-4. A limited number of scholarships are available to students, freelancers, and nonprofit employees.
