SMS Research Assistant Position Available

STUDENT RESEARCH ASSISTANT (8 hrs/week)

Research assistant needed for a community-based media project. The position entails assisting principal faculty to research, organize, backup, log, edit and catalog the materials for the project. Primary tasks involve working with large sets of photographs, video, and audio recordings. While the student is expected to contribute in various ways to the research project, typical responsibilities involve creating media assets, researching relevant texts, transcribing, and writing summaries for the archive, website and the accompanying blog/social media page. The research assistant will correspond- and work closely with the principal faculty, assistant editor and the developer. Interest in socially engaged documentary, community-based archives and/or emergent media is critical. The candidate should have working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, WordPress and basic web design. Experience with creative coding and/or data visualization tools such as Tableau is a plus, but not necessary.

 

8 hrs/week, September 2019 – May 2020 (one-semester appointment possible too)

Pay is $20.81/hr
