Job Opportunity: Press Officer (Senior Associate), Communications for Women Deliver

Accountabilities:

Press Officer

  • Establishes and fosters strong relationships with journalists, editors, and producers in order to expand media outreach globally
  • Proactively pitches stories and content that helps to increase the visibility of Women Deliver, our partners, and our issues
  • Organizes and facilitates media briefings and interviews with journalists
  • Identifies, develops, and implements ideas and opportunities for featured articles and interviews in external media that promotes awareness of Women Deliver both in the US and globally
  • Distributes press releases and other briefing materials to the media in coordination with the overall Communications Team
  • Coordinates and manages press requests, connecting the media with Women Deliver spokespeople, including the President/CEO, senior management team, and Women Deliver Young Leaders
  • Provides media training and coaching to Women Deliver spokespersons
  • Creates briefing materials such as talking points and difficult Q&A for spokespeople
  • Manages and expands the press contacts database; completing media mapping as needed
  • Oversees media monitoring working closing with Communications Associate and Assistant
  • Co-manages the development and distribution of tools and resources to assist the media field in telling more well-rounded stories of girls and women with the goal of narrative change, including organizing media trainings
  • Develops and implements press strategies to support and extend impact and awareness of key events, campaigns, and partners
  • Works closely with the other members of the Communications Team to ensure an integrated approach to Women Deliver’s overall brand and positioning
  • Part of “on call” system to respond to media requests during non- business hours

General Communications:

  • Supports communications planning for key events such as CSW, Davos, G7, UNGA etc. Works closely as a partner with the broader Communications Team and programs; work may include pitching, drafting materials, inviting media, developing stories, and event liaison support etc.
  • Supports the writing of op-eds and blogs for pitching purposes
  • Supports the creation of new advocacy materials, including policy briefs, infographics, toolkits, and webinar content, with a particular focus on newsworthy distribution
  • Supports the creation of new digital products, including website content, social media campaigns, virtual discussions, online databases, and Medium platforms
  • Provides general surge support for the Communications Team – including humanitarian, youth, and policy and advocacy work

Qualifications, Skills, Education, and Knowledge:

  • Commitment to Women Deliver’s mission, purpose, and values
  • BA/BS required; Master’s degree a plus
  • Minimum 4-6 years of related, progressively responsible work experience with emphasis in media, press relations, or journalism
  • Exposure to non-US based media outlets and organizations
  • A passion for media pitching required
  • PR or Communications Agency experience not required, but a plus
  • Skilled in prepping spokespeople for interviews, including writing briefings and doing in-person trainings
  • Experience developing trainings for journalists preferred
  • Exceptional listener and communicator – written and oral – with high attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize many different ideas, connecting the dots and crafting rich content for a range of audiences
  • Must be highly organized, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Excellent presentation, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to think both strategically and tactically, ensuring both big-picture and smaller-scale assignments are performed with excellence; mindset of flawless execution in all assignments
  • Professional and friendly demeanor and strong customer service skills
  • An entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit – must be able to own projects from start to finish, and work well with others during the process
  • Dependability, diplomacy, and a sense of humor are necessary
  • Flexibility to work overtime when needed
  • Must be able eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
