This Week in Cinema Tropical, September 23 – 30
This weekend, head north to the New York Botanical Garden for the last screening in the ‘Cinema Brasileiro‘ series marking the close of this summer’s exhibition on famed Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx.
This Sunday we’re pleased to wrap up the program with a repeat screening of João Vargas Pena’s Landscape Film: Roberto Burle Marx – a poetic and sensorial journey through the gardens and flora that informed Burle Marx’s signature, undulating patterns.
In partnership with UnionDocs, Cinema Tropical is likewise thrilled to co-present ‘Autorretratos Feministas’ – a program that looks at the legacy of the audiovisual self-portrait through the work of Argentina’s AREA (Association of Experimental Film-makers and Video-Artists). Join us on this Thursday with filmmaker Fabiana Gallegos in attendance.
Finally, there is a handful of Latin American films continuing in theaters this week from Colombia’s Oscars candidate Monos by Alejandro Landes to the haunting Mexican thriller Tigers Are Not Afraid from Issa Lopez. Don’t miss the blockbuster biopics on Mexican-American singer Linda Ronstadt or Argentine soccer player Diego Maradona either, both also playing in lower Manhattan.
