In 2018, more than 22,000 refugees were resettled in the United States, amid a rising tide of anti-immigrant rhetoric and hostility. How have those who have fled war and famine, as well as others who have been forcibly displaced from their homes, fared in their new communities under such conditions? The documentary American Beat: Cops and Refugees Join Forces in Boise, shines a light on the local, human interactions that take place when refugees from Syria, Iraq, and the Democratic Republic of Congo attempt to create new lives for themselves America.
Please join the New York City Peace Corps Association, the School of Media Studies, and the Graduate Programs in International Affairs at The New School for a special, 30-minute screening of the film, followed by a panel discussion to discuss a humanitarian issue sure to dominate headlines in the run-up to the 2020 presidential elections.
