Ever Bussey, MA Media Studies, Working as Graduate Research Assistant on Building the People’s Internet
EVER BUSSEY, MA Media Studies ‘20, is currently working as a graduate research assistant on Building the People’s Internet, a Digital Equity Lab project in partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, looking to explore the potential of establishing reliable, wireless internet to vulnerable communities. This project aims to enable community participants to build and govern their own decentralized internet infrastructure.
Under the research leadership of the DEL’s Co-Director Greta Byrum, Ever is using participatory research methods to create a baseline for community-led, internet projects that will determine a metric of success for these projects and measures community health over time.
Greta and Ever have recently co-written a piece entitled, “Community Networking for Healing and Power in Central Appalachia,” for MIT’s Network Sovereignty Blog that details their work in one of the research sites located in Central Appalachia.
