This Week in Cinema Tropical, February 10-18
This week, Cinema Tropical and Film at Lincoln Center are proud to present the 5th Annual Neighboring Scenes: New Latin American Cinema. Starting on Friday, head over to Film at Lincoln Center for a collection of ambitious recent productions from across the region, with four directors in attendance. We hope that you can join us in celebrating the contemporary best in Latin American cinema.
This week also marks the the start of the North American theatrical release of The Cordillera of Dreams, the latest film from master Chilean filmmaker Patricio Guzmán. Acclaimed at film festivals across the globe, The Cordillera of Dreams completes Guzmán’s monumental landscape and memory trilogy, investigating relationships between historical memory, political trauma and geography in his native country of Chile. The film opens on Wednesday at the IFC Center. Not to be missed.
And join us this Thursday for a special screening and conversation with acclaimed filmmaker Andrés Di Tella at UnionDocs. The Argentine director will present short films and a sneak peek of excerpts from his ongoing cinematic project—a series of short and wide ranging film diaries shot on a cellphone—and give a talk on the film diary genre and aesthetic.
