Penguin Random House Remote Fall Internship 2020

Penguin Random House will be offering their first remote
paid internship opportunity available in one of their adult or children’s editorial departments. During this 8 week program, Fall interns will work 14 hours per week at a pay rate of $20/hr. Intern schedules will be flexible to account for candidates who may be located in a variety of time zones. No prior editorial experience is required.

PROGRAM DETAILS:
Penguin Random House will be offering our first remote paid internship opportunity available in one of our adult or children’s editorial departments.  When a book proposal is received, the Editor decides whether or not to pursue it for acquisition. An Editor works with the author to turn the manuscript into a finished book. They negotiate contracts, edit the books for content, structure and on a line-by-line basis, and collaborate with internal departments on how to package, market, and publicize the book.

Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Reading, evaluating, and responding to slush, agented submissions, and contracted works

  • Writing readers’ reports and copy

  • Updating title information sheets

  • Attending virtual meetings with department

  • Researching consumer interests and identifying trends via social media and other outlets

  • Competitive title research

Interns will learn more about the editorial process, publishing industry, and our business through employee speaker series digital events over the course of the program.

Fall interns work for 14 hours per week for 8 weeks and are paid $20hr. Intern schedules will be flexible to account for candidates who may be located in a variety of time zones.

Program Dates: September 28, 2020 – November 20, 2020
