Reading of Gridlock: Prison II Purpose, 4/29

This staged reading of GRIDLOCK: An Anthology of Prison Narratives explores the grittiness of the Texas prison system, its impact on those still behind the walls, and the lasting effects on those released. The anthology is comprised of stunning personal narratives that humanize those in our prison system, “I was not treated like a man. We had become numbers and bodies and objects.”

Hear eight performers give voice to striking poems, essays and stories. Each excerpt offers perspectives of the system, the culture, and the ambitious nature of those who seek a second chance to do something substantial with their lives. These powerful writings from incarcerated scholars aim to enlighten through the use of poetry and spoken word. “How does an individual go from rioting to writing, from wandering to wondering?”
