SMS Student Gabriel G Torres, MA Media Studies ’22, Will Present Original Play, “Dust Vanishes Away as the Godseeds Spread,” at Haus of Dust
Haus of Dust is a multimedia outreach campaign which exists to elevate Queer Latinx communities struggling with substance use by connecting community members with support, treatment, and educational resources. In residency with the Loisaida Center and The Laundromat Project, we will be working at the intersection of HIV prevention efforts, drug abuse awareness, and civic practice. The campaign will culminate in the original play, Dust Vanishes Away as the Godseeds Spread by Gabriel G Torres, a multi-sensory immersive experience which explores drug addiction, trauma and survival through a personal Queer-Latinx lens.
Haus of Dust will be hosting a series of workshops open to community members to participate! Events will be held in English and Spanish.
Workshops:
Creativity and Collaboration through Shrines,
June 7 – 10 @ First Session : 1:30 – 3:00PM / Second Session 3:30 – 5:00PM
Participants will create shrines in collaboration with artist Julia Justo, that are the size of the characters written into the production, engaging their presence beyond their physical role in the project. The goal is to
directly involve the community in creating elements of the production that call for collaboration and whose creation can act as a means of healing, whether it be spiritual, mental, or emotional. All artists welcome.
Facilitated by Julia, the workshop will take place June 7th to June 11th at the Loisaida Center. The workshop is limited to ten participants total, being divided into two groups of five to be safe and adhere to social distancing guidelines. Each group of five will attend the workshops in shifts, with the first group of five attending a session from 1:30 PM to 3 PM, and the second group attending the afternoon session of 3:30 PM to 5PM .

Harmony Building Workshop
May 28th & 29th, June 5 & 6, June 13 @ Time TBD between participant and Vanessa
This workshop is open to all who are willing to participate and can commit to participate in the project. Facilitated by Vanessa, who plays the role of the Master of Ceremonies (MC) in Dust Vanishes Away, the workshop will focus on an affirmation and tonal-meditation inspired approach. Vanessa will work one-on-one with a participant and will practice breath and vocals, finding where their natural musicality lives, and directing that focus towards the Self for personal use, as well as towards a harmonization with other participants for a collective music piece (For Haus of Dust). We’ll work together to join together in harmony, during a one day filming @ Loisaida INC. on June 13th. The final product will be shown as part of the production. Participants can sign up to the workshop for an individual session with Vanessa. If you’d like to workshop your voice, find your natural singing voice, this can be an incredible opportunity ! The participants of the workshop will organize with Vanessa to plan a time on their day that works for them. This workshop will be more audio focused than musically focused. No prior skill is required. The only on date on site, June 13th will ask participants to come to the Loisaida Center for 3 hours. Following the CDC guidelines, each participant will have to wear a mask, have their temperature checked in Loisaida, and only 1 person will be recording at the time.

Haus of Dust es una campaña de difusión multimedia que existe para elevar a las comunidades Queer Latinx que luchan contra el uso de metanfetamina conectando a los miembros de la comunidad con apoyo, tratamiento y recursos educativos. Taller de Creación de Altares

Los participantes crearán santuarios en colaboración con la artista Julia Justo, que son del tamaño de los personajes escritos en la producción, involucrando su presencia más allá de su rol físico en el proyecto. La meta es
Involucrar directamente a la comunidad en la creación de elementos de la producción que requieran colaboración. y cuya creación puede actuar como un medio de curación, ya sea espiritual, mental o emocional. Todos los artistas son bienvenidos. Facilitado por Julia, el taller se llevará a cabo del 7 al 11 de junio en el Centro Loisaida. El taller está limitado a diez participantes en total, y se divide en dos grupos de cinco para estar seguros y cumplir con las pautas de distanciamiento social. Cada grupo de cinco asistirá a los talleres por turnos, el primer grupo de cinco asistirá a una sesión de 1:30 p.m. a 3 p.m., y el segundo grupo asistirá a la sesión de la tarde de 3:30 p.m. a 5 p.m.

Taller de Creación de Harmonías Vocales
Mayo 28 y 29, Junio 5 7 6, Junio 13 , Una session – La hora sera determinada entre el tallerista y el participante
Este taller está abierto a todos los que estén dispuestos a participar y puedan comprometerse a
participar en el proyecto. Facilitado por Vanessa, quien desempeña el papel de Maestra de Ceremonias (MC) en Dust Vanishes Away, el taller se centrará en un enfoque inspirado en la afirmación y la meditación tonal. Vanessa trabajará individualmente con un participante y practicará la respiración y la voz, encontrando dónde vive su musicalidad natural y dirigiendo ese enfoque hacia el Ser para uso personal, así como hacia una armonización con otros participantes para una pieza musical colectiva. (Para Haus of Dust).
Trabajaremos juntos para unirnos en armonía, durante un día de filmación en Loisaida INC. El 13 de junio. El producto final se mostrará como parte de la producción. Los participantes pueden inscribirse en el taller para una sesión individual con Vanessa. Si desea entrenar su voz, encontrar su voz natural para cantar, ¡esta puede ser una oportunidad increíble! Los participantes del taller se organizaran con Vanessa para planificar un horario de su día que les funcione. Este taller estará más centrado en el audio que en la música. No se requiere habilidad previa. La única fecha en sitio, el 13 de junio, pedirá a los participantes que vengan al Centro Loisaida durante 3 horas. Siguiendo las pautas de los CDC, cada participante deberá usar una máscara, controlar su temperatura en Loisaida, y solo 1 persona estará grabando en ese momento.
