Knight Foundation Awards NYC Media Lab $600K to Launch “AI for Local News” Initiative, Creates FT Job Opportunity
We’re thrilled to announce that the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has selected NYC Media Lab as a recipient of funding as part of its new, $3 million “ AI for Local News” initiative which is designed to help local news organizations harness the power of artificial intelligence.
Working alongside Knight Foundation and fellow grantees—Associatedd Press, Brown Institute at Columbia, and Partnership on AI—we”re excited to apply our $600,000 funding to develop and manage a digital platform on AI in journalism that offers resources, information, and new knowledge in the field.
As part of the initiative, NYC Media Lab will also launch an innovation challenge to explore emerging applications of AI for local news organizations.
To Support the Initiative, NYC Media Lab Is Hiring a Community & Project Lead
To best support the “AI for Local News” initiative, NYC Media Lab is hiring a Community & Project Lead. This position will cultivate a community of practice across newsrooms, universities, startups, and the broader community of those interested in the intersection of AI and journalism. We’re looking for amazing candidates who are excited to:
1) Develop a digital platform and newsletter on AI in journalism that offers resources, information, and new knowledge in the field.
2) Launch and manage an “AI & Journalism” innovation challenge to explore emerging applications of AI for local news.
This is a two-year, fixed-term position.
