Variety Article by SMS Faculty David Lieberman is finalist for National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards
The Los Angeles Press Club just announced that a story co-written by SMS Associate Professor David Lieberman for Variety, with a contribution from recent grad Xinran Qi, MS Media Management ’21, is one of five finalists for its annual National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards in the General News category for Print–Newspapers or Magazines.
“What the Media’s Most Powerful Execs Were Paid in 2020: Did Pandemic Pay Cuts Have an Impact?” provided a detailed look at the ways that directors of Disney, AT&T, Comcast, Fox, Lionsgate, Netflix, ViacomCBS, and Discovery ensured that CEOs did not share the sacrifices that employees made in a year when the industry was savaged by the COVID pandemic. It would take the average employee of these companies 338 years to make as much as their CEOs did in 2020 alone, the story found — a far higher pay disparity than we see at most major U.S. corporations. Winners will be announced Feb. 5, 2022.
