Get Tickets to The Katra Film Series’ 6th Annual Grand Finale and Submit to their 2018 Film Festival

Katra Film Series proudly returns to the iconic Alamo Drafthouse Theater in Downtown Brooklyn for its 6th Annual Grand Finale on Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Featuring works fresh from a festival run at Sundance, Tribeca, Palm Springs and Cannes Film Festival and dealing with such wide-ranging issues as the BLM movement to undocumented immigrants living in the shadows and the myriad issues facing women everyday in America, Katra’s Finale will present a diverse and powerful lineup from NYC-based and international filmmakers from Israel, Brazil, Greece, Austria and Germany.

80% of the finalists’ work were either written, directed or produced by a female filmmaker, and 50% of our finalists include an African-American, Asian or Latino Filmmaker. Now in its 7th year Katra continues to showcase new works with a simple mission in mind: to champion undiscovered works that reflect our world and to serve as a launching pad for emerging filmmakers from diverse backgrounds.

In 2017, out of a record number of 600+ submissions from 34 different countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Iran, Finland, Macedonia, Latvia, South Africa, Nepal, the founder and executive director Geoffrey Guerrero says “Our screening committee had its work cut out for them this year and we were really focused on curating a lineup that was socially relevant, timely, diverse and entertaining all at the same time – no easy feat when the quality of the submissions exceeded our expectations. It goes without saying there were plenty of films that we really loved and simply could not screen due to a lack of time, space and resources. We held 6 screening events throughout the year and officially selected a total number of 64 shorts from around the world.”

In partnership with Everyone Matters and Rhino Films, the 2017 Grand Prize Winner will be awarded a one-on-one meeting with acclaimed Producer Stephen Nemeth from the Academy-Award nominated “The Sessions” and “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” Our Grand Jury this year includes Academy-Award nominated producer Jason Kliot and acclaimed filmmakers Sebastian Cordero, Anamaria Marinca, Jeff Pinilla, and Kiara Jones. Additional prizes and sponsors include Canon, Pond5, Digital Ocean, Museum of the Moving Image, New York Women in Film and Television, Wine Legend, Backstage Magazine, International Screenwriters’ Association, The Yards, Goze, and others.
