KK de La Vida Presents “Liquid Plasticity: A Movement Prayer” at Yale Divinity School’s Graduate Conference on Religion and Ecology, Thursday, April 19
KK de La Vida, an online MA student in the Media Studies program, is excited to present “Liquid Plasticity: A Movement Prayer” at Yale Divinity School’s Graduate Conference on Religion and Ecology this Thursday, April 19, 2018. “Liquid Plasticity” is the second live iteration of “Reality Beach,” a butoh-based participatory performance and prayer from a plastic mermaid washing up on the city’s shore to conjure questions of memory, materiality, spirituality and embodiment within shifting techno-ecologies. Originally developed from a Public Performance Art Fellowship with Betty’s Daughter Arts Collaborative last year, KK is further substantiating research on the mermaid through Dawnja Burris’s Animals as Media class.
KK continues studying butoh, dance, somatics, yoga, movement-based poetic practices and geopolitics of public performance, documenting travel journeys in a Medium blog for the course Urban Tactics and Performance (co-taught by professor Nitin Sawhney and Fulbright scholar-dancer Sasha Portyannikova). Kk is excited for her acceptance in the first cohort for The Institute of Somatics and Social Justice in Philadelphia, PA, studying 500-hours in Somatic Movement Education the next two summers.
