Arte y Cultura: Revitalizing the Cultural Heritage of Indigenous Peoples

The goal of this year’s annual conference is to promote a conversation between those in NYC and Mexico engaged in efforts to revitalize indigenous languages. It will further provide an opportunity to update researchers on the progress of language revitalization and serve as a venue to discuss the serious issues that indigenous immigrant communities are facing in New York City.

Taller CLACS | CLACS Workshop

Taller CLACS is an interdisciplinary works-in-progress series for graduate students whose research focuses on Latin American and Caribbean Studies. A cross-departmental space for advanced graduate students to present new work for discussion in a collegial context of mutual support.

Course

Beginners Quechua Course | Non-Credit Open to the Public

Join us for this month-long intensive to learn the most widely spoken indigenous language in the Americas! Quechua has been spoken in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile since the 16th century. In this course, you’ll learn to speak the variant from Cusco, Peru, which allows you to read the first documents written in this language. Depending on students’ interests, the class could also include Kichwa, spoken in Ecuador. At the end of the class you will be familiar with present, past, and future tense. In addition to grammar, you will learn about the relationship between Andean culture and language.

This class is great for heritage speakers, language enthusiasts, civil servants, public health workers, UN and embassy workers, teachers, journalists, and more.
