Graduate Students: The New School Archives Department is Hiring
The New School Archives and Special Collections seeks a graduate student to assist archivists with routine tasks. Candidate will work under the supervision of archivists, processing digital and analog materials using archival standards and procedures.
The student assistant will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the university archives, including basic administrative duties. Training will be provided for all specialized software.
Tasks include:
Using collections management software for cataloging and to look up locations of archival materials for retrieval.
Describing archival materials in a variety of stages, including creating inventories and more in-depth description of folder contents, as well as summaries of entire collections.
Student may also research and write historical and biographical notes.
Undertake basic preservation actions, including rehousing photographs and oversize material.
Conducting basic research in the university archives and authoring concise reports to assist supervisors in answering inquiries.
Cataloging in the back-end of the Archives’ Digital Collections database.
Position is open to graduate students only. Schedule may be flexible but must be consistent. A commitment to continue through the academic year 2019-2020 is highly desired. Prior library, archives and/or museum experience is not required, but would be helpful.
Position will be approximately 15 hours a week between Monday and Friday.
