Become a Mentor at Girls Write Now

Girls Write Now (girlswritenow.org) is building their class of 2020 to make sure they have a diverse and dedicated community of volunteer mentors.

Girls Write Now is a nationally award-winning nonprofit and New York’s first and only mentoring organization for girls. For more than 20 years, they have matched emerging young writers with professional women writers as their personal mentors. At Girls Write Now, mentors join a dynamic writing community and change a young writer’s life.

Mentees are high need teens from NYC public high schools who have a drive to learn and grow as writers. They are 90% girls of color, 70% immigrant or first generation, and 25% LGBT/non-conforming.

Our mentors are a talented and dedicated network of professional women from a range of writing-related industries (poets, playrights, novelists, professors, journalists, from publishing to advertising, entertainment, tech, and fashion).

100% of our senior mentees go to college armed with writing and multimedia portfolios and a strong sense of self—more than half with awards and scholarships. Our mentees are published in outlets including The New York Times, Newsweek, andBuzzFeed, and our award-winning anthologies; perform at Lincoln Center and the United Nations; and earn hundreds of Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor, everything you need to know, including the application, is at: girlswritenow.org/mentor. The deadline to apply is June 17.
