5 On-Campus Resources You NEED to Know

This post is part of the SMS Advising Series for New Students. All posts are designed and curated to make the lives of newly admitted students much easier. From academic resources to having a social life in NYC, we want to make sure that our students get the best of ALL worlds!

All set to take on life at The New School? Here are all the tools and resources you need to make it easier. Listed below are some of the top on-campus resources the university has to offer:

  1. University Learning Center

The University Learning Center (ULC) is a free tutoring service offered by the university to students. The ULC offers individual and group support in subjects including Writing, Math, Time Management, Adobe, etc. Sessions start on the hour, or may be requested by appointment. The ULC offers online appointments to distance learners.

  1.  Libraries and Archives

Want to get your learning on? No problem! All New School students have access to university libraries. A valid New School photo ID is required to use the libraries. A full list of Library Resources can be found here. Don’t know where to get your ID Card? Visit Campus Card Services here.

As a bonus, New School students also have access to libraries at nearby schools, including NYU and The Cooper Union!

  1. Medical Care & Health Services

A sound mind and body work in tandem together to guarantee your success at the New School. This is why the university offers a range of medical care and counseling services to all its students. The New School Student Health Services office is located at 80 Fifth Avenue, 3rd Floor.

Appointments can be scheduled online via the Student Health Services portal.

  1. Filming Equipment and Editing Labs

Projects that aspire to win awards can’t be created without top-of-the-line filmmaking equipment, can they? Luckily, New School students don’t need to pay thousands of dollars to rent equipment.  The Equipment Center and the MS Film Office offer checkout of audio and video production equipment for field and studio use.

Students also have access to Technology Labs across the campus that offer a wide range of technology facilities including Advanced Video, Audio, 2D & 3D Modeling & Animation, Research & Statistics and MS Office software and hardware.

  1.  Financial Services and Scholarships

Paying for college can seem to be huge undertaking which is why The New School offers financial aid options as well as a list of resources for scholarships and grants. We recommend that all students connect with SFS frequently and early on to make the most out of available opportunities.

Bonus for International Students!

Finding your place in New York can become overwhelming. Our International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) staff are dedicated to support students and their endeavors. With the aim of ensuring that your goals are met successfully, ISSS provides both immigration advice and cultural support in a welcoming and friendly environment.

The ISSS office is located at 72 Fifth Avenue (Fanton Hall/Welcome Center) on the third floor.

You can find a list of ALL the resources available to New School Students here and other Learning Resources here.
