School of Media Studies

This Week in Cinema Tropical, January 21-27

The IFC Center is screening two Oscar-nominated films directed by Brazilian filmmakers: Fernando Meirelles‘ The Two Popes and Petra Costa‘s documentary The Edge of Democracy. Be sure to catch them in the big screen!

And Karim Aïnouz‘s tropical melodrama Invisible Life continues to play at Film Forum and Film at Lincoln Center. The Brazilian New York Times Critics’ Pick is a “drama of resilient women, thoughtless men and crushingly unrealized dreams, told with supple grace, deep feeling and an empathy that extends in every direction” (Justin Chang, Los Angeles Times).
