The Control Arms Coalition Seeks Digital Media Consultant

Part-time Digital Media Consultant (5 months with possible extension, remote) BACKGROUND The Control Arms Coalition is a global campaign that has been working since 2003 for tough controls on the international arms trade in order to reduce human suffering. The Control Arms Secretariat coordinates the Coalition’s operations, activities and strategies and supports Coalition members in their efforts to effectively advocate and campaign for universalization and rigorous implementation of the ATT. This includes supporting work at the national, regional and international levels. The Control Arms Secretariat was established in 2011 to provide coordination and support for the Control Arms Coalition. There are now over 100 member organizations located in all global regions, and the CA Secretariat provides leadership on campaign policy and messaging, activities and overall cohesion and effectiveness. JOB DESCRIPTION Control Arms is hiring a part-time media consultant to develop and execute effective online campaign strategies and engagement. This involves supporting our efforts as we increase our multimedia reach and visibility and transition towards virtual conferences and events on issues concerning the Arms Trade Treaty and conventional arms control more generally. We are seeking a dynamic and creative individual available 2-3 days a week starting immediately for a 5 month period, working remotely or in one of our offices in New York or Geneva.

Tasks include, but are not limited to: ● Support management of and develop content for Control Arms’ social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.). Content should include following formats: multimedia (photo and video), visual presentation of messages, facts and figures; ● Update and maintain the Control Arms website and blog ● Develop and maintain a web and social media content plan and calendar ● Support development and facilitation of online meetings, webinars and conferences ● Produce presentations for meetings or layouts for digital reports ● Create social media content in support of outreach activities within the Control Arms Coalition; ● Actively engage with Control Arms member and partners through social media channels; ● Initiate and develop online global campaigns in advance of key ATT related events (e.g Sixth ATT Conference of States Parties) ● Work with Co-Directors to develop and implement an overall digital communications strategy ● Research and advise on the latest trends in new technology industry standards, new emerging digital platforms (Google Analytics, Quibi, etc), to maximize strategic digital engagement in the content strategy QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Essential ● Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Communications or Journalism ● 2+ years experience in the development and management of digital communication campaigns/material ● Experience working with NGOs, in particular in the international peace and security sector ● Experience with managing and maintaining social media accounts on all mainstream social media with a proven track record of increasing audience size, breadth and engagement ● Proven technical knowledge of a wide range of multimedia, web and digital tools including WordPress, Zoom, Youtube, Twitter, Photoshop/Illustrator ● Experience with design and development of web-based communications strategies for policy, research or civil society organizations ● Knowledge of social media monitoring technology and ability to use social media measurements ● Ability to work with minimal direction and supervision; independent and self-sufficient. ● Ability to think strategically, detail-oriented and results-driven. ● Fluency in English, good knowledge of French or Spanish desirable Desirable ● Proven copy-editing skills and ability to write flawless copy on tight deadlines ● Experience with graphic design and/or video editing Competitive compensation offered, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
