Projection mapping or spatial AR combines filmmaking with architecture to expand cinema to 3D surfaces. Using sculpture, rooms, and even buildings as a projection surface, mappers design films that work in 3D space. In this no-stress, hands-on workshop, students will learn the basics of projection mapping using the free, open source software VPT. Filmmakers are encouraged to bring their own digital footage for use in the workshop.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Angela Ferraiolo is a new media writer and filmmaker. Professionally she has worked for RKO, H20 Productions, Westwood Studios, and Electronic Arts. Her experimental films have screen nationally and internationally including ISEA, NYFF, AIEFF, Courtisane Festival, International Conference of Generative Art Rome. She teaches Playable Media at Sarah Lawrence College.

ABOUT PIRT: The Public Interactives Research Team is a research-design project led by School of Media Studies Dean Anne Balsamo. Team members include School of Media Studies and Sarah Lawrence College faculty alongside Parsons School of Design and School of Media Studies graduate students. The team’s current research design projects include The AIDS Quilt Touch Digital Experience (funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Microsoft Research, and The New School), prototyping embodied interfaces, and exploring interactivity in the wild.
