About
The School of Media Studies at the New School presents Understanding Media Studies a lecture series that functions not only as a communal orientation experience for its first-semester Masters of Arts cohort, but also as an intellectual and creative “hub” for the entire School. We welcome several guest presenters from the academy, industry, and a variety of creative fields that represent the breadth of what Media Studies is and can be.
Students in the accompanying course (UMS) are organized into small groups that are responsible for researching the various guests and preparing questions to kick off the Q&A period following each lecture; and for creating a recap and response post that is published here along with videos and presentation materials from the talks.
All lectures are open to the public and the New School community at large
Lectures take place on Mondays from 6:00 to 7:50pm in Kellen Auditorium, on the ground floor of 66 5th Avenue (near 13th Street). Once you enter the lobby @ 66th 5th, you’ll find Kellen on your left, just past the Aronson Gallery.
Livestream each event here, beginning at 6:00 pm the day the lecture is given, or check back 24 hours after the lecture for archived video.
